About the Role

This professional position is responsible for evaluating, planning, and providing occupational therapy treatment to patients, individually and in groups, under the general supervision of a higher-level staff member. The role may involve supervising other therapy staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Performs occupational therapy procedures based on physician's prescription or referral.
• Evaluates patient's degree of function and disability.
• Develops treatment plans with short and long-term rehabilitation goals.
• Records patient evaluations, progress notes, consultations, and discharge summaries.
• Participates in personnel selection and supervises staff.
• Fabricates and applies hand splints.
• Trains patients in the use of adaptive devices and self-help techniques.
• Participates in the formulation of total patient care plans.
• Confers with medical supervisors and physicians regarding patient care.
• Develops occupational therapy policies and procedures.
• Participates in and instructs educational programs.
• Maintains program records, including budget and statistical reports.
• Assists in ordering supplies and equipment.
• Participates in research activities and the development of new treatment programs.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid license and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as an Occupational Therapist.
• Possession of a Limited Permit to practice Occupational Therapy issued by the New York State Education Department.

• Operation and minor maintenance of occupational therapy apparatus and equipment.
• Community resources available to support occupational therapy programs.
• Ability to evaluate, plan, and execute treatments for patients.
