About the Role

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role where you will build and lead a team focused on AI transformation. You will be responsible for setting the technical bar, owning team deliverables, and contributing to the AI Technology roadmap.

Responsibilities

Line-manage Forward Deployed Engineers, including hiring, onboarding, objectives, development, and performance.
Own the team’s deliverables and outputs, including commitments, standards, and timelines.
Allocate people and effort across the demand pipeline, managing priorities and saying no when necessary.
Hold the engineering bar through design and code review, and develop engineers to own engagements.
Report progress, risk, and capacity honestly to leadership and stakeholders.
Design, build, and productionize complex AI solutions, taking on challenging engagements.
Own the architecture and design decisions for team solutions, ensuring security, scalability, and alignment with the enterprise core stack.
Manage solutions through evaluation, observability, and AI governance checkpoints, ensuring ongoing health.
Form part of the AI Technical Leadership Team to build and align the AI Technology roadmap with the JHI strategic roadmap.
Work across AI technology remits (Platforms, Architecture, Engineering, Governance) to align Forward Deployed Engineering deliverables with enterprise architecture.
Contribute to AI technology strategy, standards, and buy-versus-build decisions, including investment recommendations.
Review new models, tools, and vendors, assessing feasibility, cost, licensing, security, supportability, and capability.
Sit with business users to build relationships and identify problems early.
Partner with AI Enablement Partners on escalated demand and set realistic expectations with stakeholders.
Build advanced investment capability on Nexus, leading citizen developer workflows.
Expose data and capability through Accio, building reusable components.
Co-build enterprise core-stack deliverables with Percepta and AI Engineering, and represent Forward Deployed Engineering in architecture forums.

Requirements

At least eight years in technical, business-facing engineering roles (forward deployed, solutions, consulting-side software, or embedded engineering), including time as the most senior engineer.
Experience leading engineers as a line manager, tech lead, or founder, with accountability for others' delivery.
Strong Python and SQL skills with a track record of shipping production applications.
Production experience with LLMs, including prompt and context engineering, agent development, evaluation, and deployment at scale.
Experience building data pipelines from APIs and enterprise systems.
Working knowledge of a major cloud (ideally Azure), including CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code.
Experience owning a technical roadmap and making technology selection judgments.
Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to influence without direct authority.
High agency, genuine interest in business problems, and willingness to transition from building to leading.
Experience in a regulated environment with an understanding of governance, compliance, and data sensitivity.
