About the Role
The Legal Cashier & Operations Coordinator or Assistant supports the firm's financial operations by accurately and timely processing client and office account transactions. This role is critical for ensuring compliance with SRA Accounts Rules, maintaining financial record integrity, and providing high-quality service to internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Process client account receipts and payments accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with agreed procedures and approval requirements.
- Conduct bank account validation procedures, including liaising with client contacts and third parties, completing oral verification checks, and arranging test payments.
- Ensure all client money transactions comply with SRA Accounts Rules, internal controls, and the firm’s finance policies.
- Monitor client account balances and investigate exceptions, unusual items, or discrepancies promptly.
- Support the timely resolution of client money queries.
- Process office account payments, transfers, and banking transactions accurately, ensuring proper authorization and recording.
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records within the firm’s finance systems.
- Support month-end and year-end financial processes by providing cashiering information, reconciliations, and transaction analysis.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner, escalating unresolved issues or risks.
- Assist with managing banking relationships and operational banking activities.
- Maintain appropriate audit trails and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, finance procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Escalate potential breaches, risks, or control weaknesses appropriately.
- Support internal and external audit requests by providing accurate information, documentation, and explanations.
- Assist with the implementation of process improvements and best-practice cashiering procedures.
- Support Accounts Payable with invoice, supplier, and payment queries.
- Support the dispatch of client bills via various methods.
- Assist with staff and partner expense processing queries.
- Assist with finance operational processes and ad hoc tasks.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a legal cashiering, finance operations, or accounting role.
- Sound understanding of SRA Accounts Rules, client money principles, and compliant financial processes.
- Practical experience of processing financial transactions and completing bank reconciliations.
- Ability to investigate discrepancies and follow matters through to resolution.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to manage competing demands efficiently while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and service.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and finance systems.
