About the Role
This 18-month post-doctoral researcher position is funded by a Springboard grant from the Academy of Medical Sciences and British Heart Foundation. The project aims to characterize and validate novel genes for Brugada syndrome using zebrafish models, a world-leading centre for investigating the causes of sudden cardiac death in the young.
Responsibilities
- Design CRISPR-mediated gene knockdown of zebrafish orthologues for novel putative Brugada genes.
- Undertake functional analyses to assess the effect of these knockdowns on heart function.
- Implement new techniques and optimize protocols critical to the project.
- Provide technical expertise and input for troubleshooting of experiments.
- Work with limited supervision.
- Contribute to data analysis and interpretation.
Requirements
- PhD in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry or a related discipline.
- Practical expertise with gene editing methodologies.
- Extensive direct experience of zebrafish husbandry techniques.
- Experience in the development of zebrafish disease models.
- Experience in designing and executing functional assays for evaluating the effects of gene mutations.
- Excellent technical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
