About the Role
WSP has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer in their London office, focusing on the Data Centre sector with their Mission Critical Facilities team. This role offers the chance to work on exciting and technically challenging projects within a fast-paced sector, collaborating with Colocation Providers, End Users, and Enterprise clients across the UK and EMEA.
Responsibilities
- Support the team in developing conceptual designs for electrical distribution systems from EHV, HV, MV to Low Voltage, incorporating high voltage equipment, generation equipment, UPS plant, low voltage switchgear, and power control and monitoring systems.
- Provide clients with advice regarding available electrical systems/requirements to meet their business needs.
- Lead the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment.
- Provide written reports of system options in the form of design development notes.
- Produce technical specifications for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
- Ensure coordination with other disciplines, including Architects and Structural Engineers.
- Produce calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation for tender.
- Monitor the installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employer's requirements, design specifications, and all relevant safety codes.
- Engage in client-facing activities, discussing technical subjects and agreeing on client requirements.
- Work independently and as part of the WSP global project team.
Requirements
- Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards Chartered status) or equivalent experience.
- Technical knowledge of relevant UK & EU regulations and design guides.
- IT literate with a technical understanding of relevant IT packages, e.g., Trimble (formally Amtech).
- Understanding of the ETAP software package for HV modelling (Fault current, current flow & harmonics).
- Understanding of the Neher-McGrath method of calculating underground cable temperatures & ampacity.
- Understanding of the Tier classifications as defined by The Uptime Institute, TIA942, and EN50600.
- Ability to work as part of a team, and the ability to effectively lead, direct, and mentor individuals.
- Understanding of working with RevitMEP or other 3D design software to allow allocation/direction of work on projects.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD to allow allocation/direction of work on projects.
