About the Role
The QA Engineer is a member of the Software Testing team, working on in-house GeoPrediction software within an agile development framework. This role improves software quality and usability through manual/automated testing and collaboration with developers and support staff.
Responsibilities
- Run test scripts accurately and efficiently, recording all necessary updates with adequate detail.
- Update existing test scripts to thoroughly test current software versions.
- Write new test scripts to address testing deficiencies and new functionality.
- Accurately record all software defects in the issue management system with sufficient detail for developers.
- Develop and maintain code for automated testing.
- Attend and contribute in daily stand-up and planning meetings.
- Complete planned testing tasks within the required period.
- Provide feedback during retrospective and review meetings.
- Take ownership of the product’s testing responsibilities.
- Write a weekly status report in standard company format.
- Manage time to deliver primary accountabilities while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
- Provide functional demonstrations and guidance to internal software users.
- Assist with updating documentation for new product releases.
- Understand user interaction with Ikon Science software to improve testing scope and relevance.
- Assist the Customer Success Team with client-based problem solving and demonstrations.
- Assist with onsite and telephone support and training for external and internal clients.
Requirements
- Experience using geoscience software products such as Petrel, Kingdom, RokDoc or knowledge of the oil and gas industry is an asset.
- Experience in software development and knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
- Experience testing desktop and web applications.
- Familiarity with Windows & Linux platforms in a commercial environment.
- Reporting defects and liaising with various teams to ensure successful resolution.
- Excellent understanding of the purpose of testing and where it fits in to software development lifecycle.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Good general IT knowledge including use of Windows and Linux operating systems.
- High level of analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to program in Java/JavaFX/Python or a similar language is desirable.
- Knowledge of industry standard tool, such as JIRA and/or Azure DevOps, is preferable.
- Use and understanding of AI tools in the software development lifecycle.
- Self-motivated – Must be able to work unsupervised and with a ‘can do’ attitude.

- Enthusiastic – Must be aware of the work being done by the entire team and understand where help can be offered.
