About the Role
As an Editor, you will play an important role in maintaining the accuracy, clarity, and professionalism of Law360 Australia’s daily news coverage. Working closely with reporters and editorial colleagues, you will edit and publish breaking news, analysis, and features across complex legal, regulatory, and business topics.
Responsibilities
- Edit daily news stories for accuracy, clarity, structure, and readability
- Correct factual, grammatical, spelling, and stylistic errors
- Write accurate, engaging headlines for a professional audience
- Ensure articles meet Law360’s editorial standards and house style
- Apply sound news judgement and prioritise important breaking stories
- Identify and escalate potential legal, ethical, or editorial risks
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to reporters
- Help develop and maintain newsroom style guidance
- Edit and publish articles contributed by external legal experts
- Liaise professionally with contributors and internal legal teams
- Contribute to editorial planning and newsroom discussions
- Collaborate with Law360 colleagues locally and internationally
- Explore approved tools, including generative AI, while maintaining strong human editorial judgement
Requirements
- Approximately 2 to 6 years’ professional copy-editing experience
- Experience editing news copy in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong grammar, spelling, writing, and headline-writing skills
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify factual inconsistencies
- Sound editorial and news judgement
- Confidence to work independently and make editing decisions
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
- A constructive approach to providing feedback to journalists
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent skills gained through experience
- Previous experience as a journalist or reporter who has progressed into copy editing would be highly regarded
- Experience editing daily legal, financial, or business news is also desirable
