About the Role

We build models that run inside our platforms, along with the retrieval, memory, and evaluation systems. We ship these into production, ensuring they function effectively. You will help define the research roadmap, not just fine-tune existing ones.

Responsibilities

  • Build custom models for customers and across arbitr's platforms, owning the pipeline end-to-end.
  • Develop systems around models, including retrieval, memory, and reasoning, to deliver production value.
  • Own model evaluations by building benchmark tooling to assess model performance.
  • Track new models and training techniques, integrating relevant advancements into our stack.
  • Design research workstreams from problem statements through to pipeline changes.
  • Deploy and manage models at scale, including serving, monitoring, and orchestration on GPU infrastructure.
  • Support strategic engagements with global partners, providing technical guidance.
  • Provide engineering support for wider platform work, including architecture reviews and AI strategy input.

Requirements

  • Experience training models from the ground up, with a deep understanding of underlying mechanisms and debugging capabilities.
  • Ability to think in terms of experiments and build evaluation gates before trusting results.
  • A relentless drive to move from idea to production, filtering signal from noise.
  • Willingness to join a team reinventing itself and contribute to future developments.
  • Detailed understanding of model building concepts such as LoRA, PT, reinforcement learning, and inference.
  • Comfort designing and building datasets.
  • Working background in data science.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong Python skills.
  • Self-starter mindset with personal accountability for outcomes.
  • Familiarity with content at labs.straker.ai or the ability to quickly become familiar.
