About the Role
This role acts as a change catalyst, applying HR expertise to partner with client groups, providing leadership, support, and strategic business thinking to transform healthcare and co-create the best health possible.
Responsibilities
- Partner with assigned clientele to identify operational needs in relation to workforce planning and succession management.
- Support leaders in timely, consistent and values-based people decisions.
- Lead and/or participate in the execution of various components of the HR Strategy to enhance service delivery.
- Lead complex, cross-functional HR projects from scoping and planning through implementation and evaluation.
- Act as a business partner with program areas to provide HR analysis, communicate risk areas and work with program managers to identify risk mitigation.
- Develop and execute change management strategies for organizational and HR initiatives.
- Ensure effective administration, interpretation and application of Collective Agreements and Hospital policies, guidelines and directives.
- Handle grievance and dispute resolution management, including representing the Hospital at mediations and partnering with legal counsel on matters proceeding to arbitration.
- Lead, participate and support union-management committees and meetings.
- Coach leaders in leveraging and maximizing the Hospital’s performance management tools for talent management, staff development and performance improvement plans.
- Proactively build and maintain strong relationships with assigned client group and key stakeholders including union leaders.
- Facilitate timely resolution of all employee and labour relations issues.
- Conduct prompt employee and labour relations investigations with management and union where appropriate.
- Partner and support Occupational Health and Safety, through return-to-work plans, accommodation, attendance support program and injury/illness reporting.
- Develop, implement and analyze trends through reports and metrics to provide realistic solutions to business challenges.
- Establish governance and reporting mechanisms for assigned initiatives, monitor progress against milestones and outcomes, address barriers and risks, and escalate decisions or resource requirements as appropriate.
- Identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care.
Requirements
- Applicants must reside and be legally eligible to work in Ontario.
- Undergraduate degree in Business and/or Human Resource Management; Graduate degree preferred (e.g. MHRM, MIRHR).
- Certified Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP) preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience as an HR professional in a unionized workplace.
- Previous experience participating in the collective bargaining process.
- Previous experience with compensation and benefits within a unionized environment.
- Healthcare or broader public sector experience in HR strongly preferred.
- Sound working knowledge and experience with HR practices and principles including provincial legislation (Human Rights, Employment Standards, AODA, Health and Safety), Collective Agreement administration and the ability to effectively interpret and apply accordingly.
- Strong relationship management skills with experience in partnering, influencing, coaching and building credibility with leaders and the HR team.
- Strong change management skills with demonstrated ability to act as a catalyst for change within the operation.
- Strong business acumen and issue resolution skills with the ability to deal with situations in an open, objective and flexible manner.
- Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria.
- Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital.
- Legally eligible to work in Ontario and reside in Ontario.
- This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.
- Employment at Women’s College Hospital is conditional upon the verification of credentials, completion of a health review, and proof of immunity and vaccination status for vaccine-preventable diseases, in alignment with WCH Communicable Disease Surveillance protocols.
- Successful candidates will be required to complete the Employee, Physician and Volunteer Immunization Record Submission Form and the Pre-Placement Health Review Form prior to commencing employment.
