About the Role

This role is critical for advancing health system solutions and virtual care by developing, implementing, and evaluating innovations. The Biostatistician II will play a key part in improving health outcomes through rigorous statistical analysis and study design, contributing to the hospital's mission of providing equitable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare.

Responsibilities

Create complex data collection plans and perform complex statistical modeling using various software.
Advise and consult on advanced statistical methods, data analysis, and study design.
Coordinate internal and external data flow with collaborators.
Develop and maintain databases and registries.
Implement and coordinate all aspects of data collection, including database creation, with a focus on evaluating the national Choosing Wisely Canada campaign.
Provide statistical oversight to studies, ensuring quality and consistency with project requirements.
Advise on data and data collection matters, providing support materials such as randomization lists, sample size and power calculations, and reliability assessments.
Lead the development, design, and evaluation of new projects, assessing feasibility and analyzing pilot data.
Utilize extensive methodological expertise to assist with research protocols and strategies.
Lead and/or assist with writing grant proposals, graphics, papers, reports, and manuscripts for publication.
Lead the write-up of manuscript sections related to methods, data reporting, and data interpretation.
Develop and deliver presentations on research findings to diverse audiences.
Assist with ethics applications and renewal submissions.
Coordinate and liaise with external organizations on collaborative research projects.
Communicate and manage relationships with external analysts, research assistants, and stakeholders/funders.
Lead and supervise entry-level staff and graduate students, mentoring peers on statistical methodology and providing training.
Coordinate tasks and review deliverables to ensure timely and high-quality project completion.
Advise on and manage budget and resourcing for specific research analyses.
Act as a role model and champion for safety, integrating safe practices into daily activities.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Biostatistics or a relevant field (e.g., Clinical Epidemiology, Health Economics, or other health-related discipline).
5-7 years’ experience in progressively responsible, related experience, working in clinical epidemiology, health economics, or other health-related discipline in a research environment.
Proficiency and experience with administrative and registry data sets and with biostatistical analysis.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of and proficiency in relevant computer programs such as SAS and STATA.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative on projects and work independently.
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with a wide variety of people at different levels.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; uses good judgment.
Good understanding of research design and research ethics.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to PHIPA.
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high-quality work while meeting deadlines.
Good work and attendance record required.
