About the Role
Seeking an experienced Interface Manager to support a large, complex, heavy-civil rail infrastructure program. This role establishes, implements, and manages a formal Interface Management Plan, ensuring technical and organizational interfaces are identified, tracked, and resolved across engineering, procurement, and construction activities. The position requires coordination across multiple contractors, stakeholders, and technical teams in high-risk interface environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and implement the project interface management plan, including the interface register, interface control documents, and the process for identifying, assigning, and closing interface points.
- Identify technical and organizational interfaces across engineering, procurement, and construction activities, and coordinate resolution across design contracts, construction packages, and disciplines.
- Chair interface coordination meetings, track open interface items to closure, and escalate unresolved items with a recommended path forward.
- Review design submittals and deliverables for interface conformance, including spatial coordination, structural envelope, equipment clearance, access, and maintainability, and verify that the design supports long-term operations and maintenance.
- Coordinate interfaces between civil and structural work and the systems it houses, including ventilation, mechanical and electrical rooms, traction power, trackwork, fire life safety, and communications.
- Evaluate change proposals, design change notices, and requests for information for interface impact, and document the cost, schedule, and scope consequences across affected contracts.
- Coordinate with third parties, utility owners, adjacent contracts, and permitting and operating stakeholders on interfaces that cross the contract boundary.
- Support the program risk process by translating unresolved interfaces into identified risks with assigned owners, mitigation actions, and closure dates.
- Maintain interface traceability from design criteria through construction verification, and confirm that interface requirements are carried into testing, commissioning, and turnover.
- Support schedule coordination by identifying interface-driven dependencies between concurrent design and construction contracts and confirming they are reflected in the program schedule.
- Prepare interface status reporting and briefings for program leadership, and support decisions with analysis, documentation, and recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or systems engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years' experience with interface management roles in large, complex rail infrastructure programs.
- Experience developing and implementing an interface management plan, interface register, or equivalent structured process on a program with concurrent contracts.
- Experience performing interdisciplinary design review across civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes, including spatial coordination, clearance, access, and maintainability.
- Experience with underground and tunneled construction, including the interfaces between tunnel and station structures and the mechanical, electrical, and ventilation systems they house.
- Experience coordinating concurrent design and construction contracts, including interface-driven change, schedule, and risk impacts.
- Working knowledge of how civil and structural work interfaces with supporting systems on transit, rail, or other complex infrastructure, including ventilation, power, trackwork, fire life safety, and communications.
- Experience with industry standard project / construction management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Unifier, Kahua, etc.).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
