About the Role
The Area Director of Finance is responsible for providing consistent leadership in the financial area of assigned hotels, focusing on profitability, accurate financial reporting, internal controls, regulatory compliance, and safeguarding owner/investor assets.
Responsibilities
- Manage and communicate cash flow related issues, including accurate and timely preparation of monthly financial statements, cash flow statements, receivables, payables, cash balances, control mechanisms, and timely deposits.
- Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording per Highgate Hotels guidelines and monitoring/controlling hotel cash flow and operating forecast.
- Create annual budgets and perform monthly variance analysis, investigating variances and offering improvement methodologies.
- Ensure hotel compliance with regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and operational taxes, providing assistance to management.
- Analyze financial data and operations to advise management in maintaining financial objectives.
- Comply with Standard Accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for finance and accounting operations.
- Timely review and approval of all balance sheet accounts, including monthly bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Establish and audit internal financial controls, including purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, master keys, payroll, and employee records.
- Successfully complete all internal and external financial audits, coordinating with CPA firms and providing requested information.
- Hire, train, supervise, and develop staff, including coaching, counseling, and discipline.
- Maintain compliance with Highgate Hotels’ standards and regulations for safe and efficient operation.
- Direct or prepare all financial reports according to Highgate Hotels’ requirements, meeting due dates and deadlines (Weekly: A/R & A/P Aging, Flash Reports, Payroll Reports, Revenue Updates; Monthly: Financial Statements, Forecasting Key Statistics Report, Cash Flow; Annual: Budgets, 5-Year Plans, 5-Year Capital Plans).
- Interact with Executive Committee members to ensure property operations are on track and under control.
- Monitor hotel compliance in meeting required report deadlines and due dates.
- Monitor the accurate production of the hotel daily operating report.
- Execute other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 5 or more years of Hospitality Finance/Accounting experience.
- Prior Controller or Director of Finance experience, preferably at a premium-branded Hotel.
- Experience overseeing multiple hotels at one time.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must supervise 2 or more employees.
- Must be proficient in Windows, company-approved spreadsheets and word processing, and all hotel-specific systems.
