About the Role
The Patrons Lead will manage and grow the UK-based membership of our Patrons Global Circle, overseeing donor acquisition and stewardship to meet annual income targets and expand our supporter base.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow UK-based membership of the Patrons Global Circle.
- Oversee all aspects of donor acquisition and stewardship.
- Collaborate with the UK Patrons Chair and Head of Individual Giving (HNWI) to meet income targets.
- Work with global teams to ensure alignment with organizational values and ethics.
- Design and deliver donor engagement programs leveraging global programs.
- Ensure accurate maintenance and sharing of due diligence, financial, and data management processes.
- Contribute to the development of the British Council integrated income plan.
- Advise on the philanthropic potential of Global Programmes and design elements for maximum support opportunities.
- Support the Head of Individual Giving HNWI to increase support from UK-based individual philanthropy.
- Shape the integrated income plan with the Private Sector team to increase support from UK individuals.
- Analyze commercial data sets and indicators to produce performance and trends reports.
- Devise and implement strategies for acquisition and retention of UK Patrons.
- Support the Head of Individual Giving (HNWI) with systems, processes, checks, and balances for Fundraising Regulator standards.
- Build and maintain knowledge of major developments in the fundraising market.
- Provide leadership and expert guidance on individual giving.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the thought leadership strategy for development.
- Lead the planning, establishment, and account management of British Council relationships with UK-based individual donors.
- Ensure research, cultivation, and stewardship implementation plans with SMART KPIs are in place.
- Develop and manage key patron relationships.
- Design and deliver an annual cultivation and engagement program to solicit, steward, and engage donors.
- Develop trust-based relationships with key partners, network organizations, opinion formers, and stakeholders.
- Undertake research and identify new prospects and secure new patrons.
- Map current and potential stakeholders and donors with global colleagues.
- Leverage the British Council’s multi-disciplinary program to maximize philanthropic income.
- Manage the UK element of the individual giving income strand.
- Develop and deliver cultivation and stewardship activities in line with British Council processes.
- Deputize for the Head of Individual Giving (HNWI).
- Set and oversee comprehensive work plans to meet income targets.
- Draw up and manage philanthropic income and expenditure budgets.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the British Council’s wider suite of programs, products, and businesses.
- Maintain authoritative knowledge of the UK’s strengths, reputation, and capacity within Cultural Engagement’s key markets.
Requirements
- Experience managing a membership or individual giving scheme within a charity.
- Substantial experience of face-to-face fundraising with a proven record of cultivating gifts.
- Demonstrable commitment to excellent donor stewardship at the highest level.
- Experience of close working with programme teams and ability to identify and re-shape existing activity and offers into compelling fundraising opportunities.
- A broad range of contacts within the UK Development sectors.
- Experience of writing copy and corresponding with donors demonstrating strong literacy skills.
- Ability to create a compelling case for support, both written and verbal.
- Experience of budget management and presenting financial information to philanthropists.
- Experience of reporting to Trustees and Senior Leadership.
- Experience of managing internal senior stakeholders to drive a fundraising culture internally.
- Experience of managing fundraising systems and processes (e.g. CRM, due diligence).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas in appropriate ways to a range of audiences, including Ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
- Robust donor research skills.
- Ability to think creatively to identify new fundraising opportunities.
- Must have the pre-existing, legal right to work in the UK.
