About the Role
The Client Advocate will assist in all social work aspects of defense strategies within a client-centered representation model. This is a two-year position with the possibility of renewal for a third year.
Responsibilities
- Conduct client assessments and gather relevant records.
- Make referrals to mental health and drug programs after interviewing clients and understanding their specific needs.
- Correspond with mental health and substance abuse programs regarding client referrals.
- Obtain program compliance letters for court personnel.
- Request relevant records, including CHS and hospital records.
- Draft subpoenas.
- Review and summarize medical records.
- Escort clients being released from jail to programs.
- Attend and support clients in court appearances.
- Perform weekly wellness checks on incarcerated clients.
- Send clothing/books, etc. to incarcerated clients or bring items to court.
- Conduct research related to mental health and substance abuse issues.
- Correspond with clients or family members to obtain case-related information.
- Research and identify out-of-city and language-specific programming for clients.
- Assist with writing mitigation notes and other written advocacy with supervision.
Requirements
- Must possess the temperament to work on time-sensitive and intense cases.

- Must demonstrate strong engagement, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Must be able to effectively and respectfully communicate, collaborate, and connect with people from various backgrounds, gender and sexual identities, ethnicities, experiences, and areas of expertise.
- Must have the aptitude to meet stringent deadlines.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, be proactive and resourceful, and remain calm under pressure.
