About the Role
As a Bilingual Spanish Elementary Math & ELA Teacher’s Assistant at P.S. 14 Fairview, you will support students in Grades 3–5 as they strengthen foundational literacy and math skills. This role involves push-in classroom support during the school day and afterschool academic support, reinforcing learning and helping students with challenging material.
Responsibilities
- Provide push-in classroom support from 9:00 AM–2:30 PM during Math and ELA instruction across Grades 3–5.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide targeted academic support that aligns with daily instruction.
- Offer one-on-one and small-group support to students who need additional help understanding or applying grade-level concepts.
- Reinforce foundational ELA skills, including reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking.
- Reinforce foundational Math skills, including number sense, operations, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving strategies.
- Use both English and Spanish to support student understanding and help clarify academic concepts, instructions, and assignments when needed.
- Help students work through challenging assignments and concepts while encouraging greater independence and confidence.
- Provide afterschool homework support from 2:30 PM–4:00 PM, helping students complete assignments and reinforce skills from the school day.
- Help maintain a focused, supportive learning environment during both classroom and afterschool programming.
- Monitor student progress and share observations with teachers and staff.
- Assist with organizing materials and preparing instructional resources.
- Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.
Requirements
- Fluent in both English and Spanish and comfortable using both languages to provide academic support to students.
- Passionate about supporting elementary school students' academic growth in Math and ELA.
- Comfortable supporting grade-level Math and ELA instruction across Grades 3–5.
- Able to explain academic concepts clearly in both English and Spanish and adjust their approach based on individual student needs.
- Comfortable providing support in both push-in classroom and afterschool settings.
- Reliable, professional, and committed to showing up every day.
- Strong communicators and collaborative team players.
- Experienced working with children (formally or informally) — school experience preferred, but training is provided.
- Currently pursuing or holding a bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, English, or a related field.
- Patient, adaptable, and responsive to different learning styles and student needs.
- Cleared (or eligible for clearance) through NYC DOE PETS background check and fingerprinting.
