About the Role
Cockroach Labs is seeking a Director of FP&A to reimagine our FP&A function from the ground up and lead it into the next era of finance. You will architect a fundamentally different way of working, where AI handles routine tasks, allowing FP&A to operate as a real-time decision engine. This is a lean, high-leverage role for someone who wants to stay hands-on, building models and strategic analysis directly.
Responsibilities
- Reimagine the FP&A operating model, transforming the function into an AI-native intelligence hub.
- Own long-range strategic planning, building a financial model that supports the company's next phase of growth.
- Own the company-wide planning and forecasting process, rebuilding it for the AI era with rolling, continuously updated forecasts.
- Serve as strategic finance partner to the CFO and executive team, translating complex financial signals into actionable business recommendations.
- Lead the design and delivery of board materials and investor-facing packages, leveraging AI for narrative generation and scenario modeling.
- Drive interactive, real-time scenario modeling using AI-powered 'what if' analysis.
- Deploy self-serve financial intelligence across the business, enabling leaders to answer their own financial questions.
- Partner cross-functionally with R&D, GTM, and G&A leadership to build a rigorous, trusted business partnering model.
- Lead a lean, high-impact FP&A team, focusing on AI fluency, analytical judgment, and strategic communication.
Requirements
- 8+ years of progressive experience in finance, spanning investment banking, private equity, and/or FP&A at a high-growth company.
- Strong foundation in financial modeling and analysis.
- Fluency with recurring and consumption-based revenue models and their key metrics.
- Strong ownership instinct and a bias toward speed.
- Track record of driving AI or technology-led transformation of a finance function.
- Strong financial modeling, scenario analysis, and integrated three-statement forecasting skills.
- Experience building and presenting board-level and investor-facing financial materials.
- Strong familiarity with the modern AI-enabled FP&A tooling landscape.
- Exceptional executive presence and ability to translate machine-generated intelligence into human narrative.
- Genuine preference for staying close to the work, including building models and analysis yourself.
- Curiosity and conviction about where AI is taking the finance function.
