About the Role
As a Patient Access Representative at Community Health Center of the North Country, you will create a positive first impression by welcoming patients, supporting them throughout their visit, and helping them access the care they need with professionalism and compassion.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly, professional, and confidential manner.
- Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and route calls or messages appropriately.
- Help patients access the services they need while creating a welcoming environment.
- Communicate appointment delays and assist with patient flow throughout the day.
- Complete pre-registration and registration by verifying demographic and insurance information.
- Prepare patients for their visit by providing and collecting required registration forms.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments for multiple providers.
- Assist patients with scheduling procedures and testing at outside facilities when needed.
- Document cancellations and no-shows and complete appropriate follow-up.
- Update and scan registration forms, insurance cards, identification, and other required documentation.
- Verify insurance eligibility and maintain accurate patient records.
- Assist with requests for medical records, prior authorizations, and other patient correspondence.
- Collect co-payments, account balances, and other point-of-service payments while accurately maintaining the cash drawer.
- Collaborate with the billing department to ensure accurate documentation and assist patients with billing questions.
- Connect patients with Case Management resources when barriers such as transportation, housing, financial concerns, or language services may impact access to care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of experience in a medical office or other health care setting, or specialized education in a medical office program.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience with federally qualified health centers (FQHCs).
- Enjoy helping people and providing exceptional customer service.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, providers, and coworkers.
- Stay organized and can successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable learning new technology and working in multiple computer systems throughout the day.
- Pay close attention to detail and understand the importance of accurate patient information.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Enjoy working as part of a collaborative team dedicated to improving the patient experience.
