About the Role
The Manager, Risk Management is accountable for executing on the agency’s risk management portfolio to enhance quality care, minimize loss, measure risk opportunities, and proactively protect the CMHA TVAMHS reputation and assets. This includes supporting the organization’s commitment to complying with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates short and long term organizational wide needs in alignment with the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management Plan and Strategy.
- Prioritizes risks and develops practical and achievable improvement plans.
- Analyzes trends, operational practices, and governance structures.
- Communicates risk issues to both clinical and non-clinical audiences.
- Conducts risk assessments and advises the business on risk controls.
- Promotes a risk-aware culture through training, communication, and best practices.
- Supports the ERM framework, facilitates risk identification and mitigation, maintains corporate and departmental risk registers, and prepares risk reports for leadership.
- Supports policy development, internal audits, and compliance assessments.
- Assists with RFPs, RFQs, vendor evaluations, and procurement documentation including Memorandum of Understanding.
- Develops dashboards and briefing materials, analyzes trends and risk data, and prepares recommendations.
- Works with the Director of Enterprise Risk Management to develop new initiatives supporting the organization's strategic direction and ERM.
- Learns to grow and builds a culture of continuous improvement and creativity aimed at innovation and system change.
- Collaborates with internal peers and influences program decisions regarding risk management.
- Develops and delivers timely communication within the department, program, and internal stakeholders.
- Provides risk management support and insight into significant program changes.
- Acts as the organization's subject matter expert in enterprise risk management.
- Supports the implementation of an enterprise-wide risk management framework/model and associated reporting requirements in collaboration with the Director of ERM.
- Conducts assessments to define and analyze possible risks and evaluates the gravity of each risk by considering its consequences.
- Designs processes to eliminate or mitigate potential risks.
- Develops risk management controls and contingency plans.
- Provides first-level response to unexpected/urgent issues by applying judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills to determine appropriate course of action.
- Monitors and responds to inquiries to ensure timely communication with all stakeholders, facilitating resolution of complex and sensitive situations or precedent-setting issues.
- Works in conjunction with the Director, Enterprise Risk Management to develop ERM program outcome indicators and utilize metrics to assess and drive performance, ensuring objectives are met.
- Acts as a resource to the organization in preparation for accreditation process/assessment in Enterprise Risk Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Public Administration, Finance, Law, Security or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in risk management, loss control, compliance, operational risk ideally within healthcare, community care or social services.
- Access to a vehicle required for personal transportation.
- Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
- Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly.
- Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months.
