About the Role

The London Cross Cultural Learner Centre (CCLC) is seeking a full-time, fixed-term Bilingual Language Assessor to join their Language Assessment & Referral program. This role involves assessing newcomer clients' French or English language proficiency based on Canadian Language Benchmarks and referring them to appropriate language instruction programs.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and scores the Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Assessment (CLBPA)/BTC-NCLC and other related tools to determine English or French language proficiency.
  • Assesses eligibility for federally and provincially funded English and French language training programs.
  • Determines special needs of clients that may impact their ability to access training.
  • Advises clients on the most appropriate training program based on assessment results and client needs.
  • Refers clients to training and social service agencies.
  • Completes client intake tasks and maintains client files, including assessment results and referral details.
  • Maintains statistical information on clients served.
  • Assists clients with transferring from outside and within Ontario by creating new profiles and digital folders.
  • Assists walk-in clients with federally and provincially funded English or French language training services.
  • Maintains program statistics and prepares required reports.
  • Participates in team meetings, training, and professional development activities.
  • Performs administrative and operational tasks as needed.
  • Ensures confidentiality and adherence to organizational policies and protocols.
  • Operates in accordance with the policies, guidelines, and protocols of the program and CCLC.

Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required to travel between locations.

Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in both English and French (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and language assessment practices.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) in both languages.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppressive practices and trauma- and violence-informed care.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in an appointment-based environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare basic reports.

Experience Level

  • Experience teaching French and English as second languages to adults (minimum 300 hours within the last two years in Canada)

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in French, linguistics, languages, or a related field.
  • TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) Diploma and Accreditation is required.
  • Certification or qualification in Teaching French as a Second Language (FSL) is required.
