About the Role

The Director of Development is responsible for the success of fundraising events and strategies for the Northeastern New York (NENY) chapter, aiming to meet revenue goals. This role involves managing staff and volunteers to execute special events and fundraising initiatives, adhering to national standards. The position requires strong sales, relationship management, and networking skills to cultivate relationships with community leaders and corporate partners. The Director will coach and inspire the team to develop event growth strategies, particularly for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Gala programs, and collaborate with leadership on community engagement strategies aligned with the Association's strategic plan.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the performance and success of fundraising events and strategies across the Northeastern New York (NENY) chapter to meet revenue goals.
  • Mobilize and manage staff and volunteers to produce the Chapter’s special events and fundraising initiatives according to national timelines and best practices.
  • Serve in a leadership role within the chapter, reporting to the Vice President of Development.
  • Put proven sales and relationship management skills to work driving success and achieving revenue goals through positive engagement with staff and community volunteer leaders.
  • Utilize proven networking skills to identify and cultivate relationships with key community leaders and C-Suite corporate partners.
  • Coach and inspire the team to build successful event growth strategies through community and volunteer engagement for Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Gala programs.
  • Work closely with the Vice President and cross-functional leadership developing ambitious community engagement strategies and goals that align with the Association’s strategic plan and deliver measurable results.
  • Contribute professional fundraising leadership experience in leading, coaching and mentoring the team of professional development staff.
  • Lead the planning and execution of the chapter’s annual Gala, recruiting and managing an Executive Leadership Planning Committee to drive corporate sponsorship, event ticket sales, and individual giving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in sales/marketing or related field.
  • 5+ years proven leadership experience in peer-to-peer, fundraising, and other diversified fundraising programs.
  • Experience with mass market events like the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is preferred.
  • Experience in relationship events (Galas) is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively analyze and utilize data to increase productivity and enhance results.
  • Strong track record for networking and cultivating key C-Suite community and corporate leaders.
  • Proven success in bringing community and corporate leaders to the table to fulfill volunteer leadership roles.
  • Experience in strategic implementation planning, budget development and management.
  • Successful experience in supervising, coaching and motivating fundraising staff and volunteers.
  • Capable of working cross-functionally to build capacity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Attention to detail and solid project management skills.
  • Proficiency with applications for Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), and teleconferencing software, such as Zoom.
  • Proficiency with Internet and database/fundraising applications, preferably Luminate (Convio).
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, early morning and occasional weekends.
  • Willingness and ability to represent the Chapter at meetings and special events.
  • Ability to travel within the chapter territory, as well as occasional overnight travel.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance and access to reliable, personal vehicle to meet travel requirements.
