About the Role
Okta is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build the Agent Gateway, an identity-aware infrastructure connecting enterprise AI agents to authorized resources. This role involves owning features and components across data and control planes, implementing specifications like token exchange and policy evaluation, and shipping reliable, performant services at scale.
Responsibilities
- Own the implementation of gateway features end-to-end, including virtual MCP server aggregation, token exchange, and policy evaluation, with built-in tests, observability, and operational readiness.
- Write code for credentials, tokens, tenant isolation, and audit logging within the runtime path, ensuring correctness and reliability.
- Implement and adhere to MCP, OAuth token exchange, and agent identity specifications, providing feedback from production to designs and reference implementations.
- Utilize agentic tooling such as Claude, Claude Code, and MCP-connected agents in daily workflows for design, code generation, code review, and operations.
- Participate in code review, testing, incident response, and the design-doc culture to elevate the team's engineering standards.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience building production backend systems, preferably distributed and highly available.
- Proficiency in shipping production services using Java and/or Go.
- Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and OIDC, with comfort in reading and implementing spec-driven code.
- Hands-on experience with service rollouts, feature flags, observability, and incident response.
- Working familiarity with agentic development tools (e.g., Claude Code, MCP servers, AI-assisted code review) and an understanding of their benefits.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across a data plane service and a larger identity control plane.
