About the Role
We are seeking a General Manager, Compliance to provide strategic compliance leadership within the Operational Risk and Controls team for Canada Operations and enterprise functions. The chosen individual will be responsible for leading a team of compliance professionals delivering advisory services, oversight, and critical monitoring of Canada Operations and enterprise functions. This role demands strong leadership, the ability to build and develop high-performing teams, lead through change, and foster collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups to drive accountability, execution, and continuous improvement in a highly regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead all change by setting clear priorities, driving accountability and execution, and building strong partnerships within a matrixed organization.
- Lead and maintain effective compliance programs, ensuring they remain compliant with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and assess evolving regulatory landscapes, identify business impacts and compliance gaps, and guide stakeholders in implementing required business practices, controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Provide compliance oversight and strategic advisory support to the Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bangalore, assisting leaders in identifying and managing regulatory compliance risks.
- Collaborate with supported business units to design, implement, and document key controls; identify and remediate control gaps, monitor progress; report significant issues and remediation actions, and provide status updates to senior leaders and compliance partners.
- Stay current with regulatory changes and upcoming shifts to ensure internal policies and procedures remain up-to-date.
- Lead or support engagement with regulatory bodies, as applicable, and coordinate responses to internal and external compliance reviews.
- Coordinate reviews of new regulations to assess current and required future state, and support necessary remediation actions to meet new regulatory requirements.
- Support the Canada Business Operations and Facilitation (CBOF) team and the Risk and Compliance Management Committee by providing clear reporting, escalating issues to senior levels in a timely manner, and monitoring progress and outcomes of remediation actions.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of leaders and individual contributors.
- Build a high-performance culture through clear expectations, meaningful coaching, talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
Requirements
- At least five years of progressive leadership experience in compliance, risk management, governance, audit, regulatory oversight, financial services, or a related discipline, including experience supervising teams and engaging key stakeholders.
- University degree in Business Administration, Law, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience.
- High level of knowledge of compliance frameworks within federally and provincially regulated insurance organizations.
- Demonstrated leadership and sound judgment, with the ability to make timely, informed risk-based decisions in complex, highly regulated environments.
- Exceptional prioritization and execution skills, with the ability to balance competing demands, allocate resources effectively, and maintain a risk-based perspective.
- Strong leadership capabilities, proven experience in setting clear expectations, coaching and developing leaders and individual contributors, managing performance, and building succession and talent pools.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders, business partners, compliance stakeholders, and external parties to influence decisions and advance shared objectives.
- Ability to navigate a complex matrixed organization by clarifying responsibilities, aligning diverse stakeholders, and driving work across organizational boundaries.
- Results-oriented approach, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations and practical solutions.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to prepare presentations, reports, and recommendations for senior management.

Salary/Compensations
- $128,200 - $178,200 per year
