About the Role
We are looking for a Staff Design Engineer to shape the core experience of Campfire's ERP platform. You will tackle complex, high-leverage design problems that span multiple teams and require deep systems thinking. This senior individual contributor role involves setting design direction, improving craft, and partnering with leadership to significantly impact how finance teams operate.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end design for complex, ambiguous problem spaces spanning multiple product areas, from problem framing to post-launch iteration.
- Partner with product and engineering leads as a peer to shape roadmap and strategy.
- Design for dense, data-heavy workflows (tables, ledgers, reconciliation, reporting) ensuring clarity and ease of use.
- Strengthen and evolve Campfire's design system and interaction patterns for product coherence.
- Mentor other designers, provide critique, and raise the craft bar for the team.
- Engage directly with customers (finance and accounting teams) to ground design decisions.
- Drive design reviews to facilitate faster, better-informed team decisions.
Requirements
- 8+ years of product design experience with a track record of owning complex, high-impact product areas end to end.
- Experience designing for data-dense, workflow-heavy software (fintech, ERP, dev tools, B2B SaaS, or similar) is a strong plus.
- Strong systems thinking ability, capable of understanding broader product context and fine details.
- A portfolio showcasing range, including 0-to-1 work and iteration on existing systems.
- Excellent communication skills to build alignment and clearly explain design rationale.
- Comfort working in ambiguity with incomplete requirements and evolving scope.
- Prior experience at an early- or growth-stage startup with a bias toward shipping.
- Ability to code prototypes (HTML/CSS and JavaScript for interactive mockups).
