About the Role
This is the founding design engineering role at a seed-stage AI pricing platform, focusing on the coherence layer between design systems and frontend engineering. The team utilizes AI coding agents and human engineers to ship UI rapidly, and this role ensures a unified product experience.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the design system, including design tokens, a shadcn/ui-based component library, and Tailwind conventions.
- Define and enforce frontend patterns using React Query, React Hook Form, and Zod for consistent agent-generated code.
- Enforce WCAG accessibility standards and integrate brand guidelines into the codebase.
- Audit and own frontend tooling quality, including Biome configuration, Playwright end-to-end coverage, and frontend performance.
- Act as the primary reviewer for frontend UX, setting standards for all shipped interfaces.
- Integrate AI coding tools into frontend workflows and ensure agent-generated code meets design and quality standards.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building polished product interfaces with a strong portfolio.
- Demonstrated ownership of a design system or component library in a production environment.
- Deep expertise in React, strict TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and component primitives like shadcn/ui and Radix UI.
- Experience translating design intent into tokens, component abstractions, and lint rules.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding tools in production and integrating them into frontend workflows.
- A hands-on design/UX engineering background.
- Experience building non-standard AI interfaces, conversational UIs for B2B users, constrained UI environments, or animation/transition work is a plus.
