About the Role
Forward Deployed Engineers take AI solutions from idea to secure production inside live client environments. You will embed with a client team, translate real-world workflows into AI system support, and build, test, and iterate alongside users. As a senior member, you will define technical direction, establish solution foundations, and prove value in production at a small scale, building pipelines for future use cases. You will also mentor less experienced engineers and shape delivery standards.
Responsibilities
- Embed within client teams to understand work processes and frame business problems as AI challenges.
- Lead end-to-end delivery of AI solutions, including design, build, testing, deployment, and iteration in production environments.
- Set technical direction and make architectural decisions, defending them to client engineering and security teams.
- Establish technical foundations for solutions, collaborating with client IT for integrations, access, and hosting.
- Demonstrate value in production at a small scale and work to productize and scale successful solutions.
- Build a pipeline of new use cases based on ground-level observations and help clients develop their own capabilities.
- Onboard and mentor other engineers, improving delivery standards through review, pairing, and mentoring.
- Challenge existing systems and processes to achieve common goals through technical excellence and innovation.
- Stay updated on AI and technology trends to maintain a leading edge.
Requirements
- Excellent programming and system design skills.
- Recent hands-on experience in Python.
- Experience with one of C#/.NET, Java, Rust, or C++.
- Track record of deploying AI or machine learning systems to production (not just prototypes).
- Substantial experience with LLMs, prompt design, agentic workflows, evaluation harnesses, and retrieval pipelines.
- Depth in surrounding engineering, including APIs and integrations, SQL, cloud platforms (Azure or AWS), version control, CI/CD.
- Understanding of security and access considerations for deploying within client environments.
- Proven ability to own projects from start to finish in ambiguous settings.
- Judgement to determine what to build, buy, or leave alone.
- Experience working directly with clients or business stakeholders.
- Credibility to push back when stated requirements are not optimal.
- Entrepreneurial nature with a willingness to take ownership and embrace innovation.
- Clear and professional communication skills for clients and colleagues at all levels, including non-technical users.
- Desire to understand and solve business problems, build domain knowledge, and increase market understanding.
- Strong academic background with an undergraduate degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
- Financial services experience is a bonus but not essential.
