About the Role
The Peer Specialist is an active member of the SI PROS Team, functioning as a role model to peers by demonstrating recovery and coping skills. This role involves advocating for participants, providing peer support, and assisting them in regaining independence and learning new skills. The Peer Specialist also helps participants monitor progress, models coping techniques, supports self-advocacy, facilitates recovery groups, and assists with meal services within the SI PROS community space, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer supports for participants.
- Assist participants in regaining independence within the community.
- Assist participants in learning and practicing new skills.
- Help participants monitor their progress.
- Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
- Support participants in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services.
- Facilitate recovery groups based on established curricula.
- Assist participants in any area they require help.
- Support the SI PROS community space, ensuring safety and a supportive environment.
- Assist with meal services at SI PROS.
Requirements
- Minimum one year experience in behavioral health services or mental health setting.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work long hours sitting and using computer and/or office equipment.
- Valid driver's license in good standing required.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, WORD, Excel, PowerPoint) and database navigation required.
