About the Role
The ACLU seeks an Analytics Engineer to transform data in internal systems into analysis-ready forms, scrape data from public sources, and improve the data and analysis pipeline. This role supports evidence-based decision making and brings quantitative insights on issues to the courtroom and the public. The position is part of a collective bargaining unit represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data models to support reporting, business intelligence, and analytics needs using dbt.
- Collaborate with third-party vendors and the Analytics Engagement team during CRM migration and dbt model rebuilds for business essential reporting.
- Build and orchestrate Python ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines in Dagster for efficient data flow.
- Scrape data from public websites to support legal, organizing, and advocacy projects.
- Ensure high-quality, accurate, and timely data availability for stakeholders.
- Utilize and promote data warehousing and SQL best practices for swift and reliable analytics.
- Partner with internal departments to define and document consistent business data practices.
- Collaborate with Legal and Advocacy Analytics teams to provide data support for legal crises and issue-based campaigns.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with data warehouses and database query languages (e.g., Redshift, SQL).
- Experience building data models and writing ETL in a business setting.
- Proficiency in translating business metrics into well-scoped tasks and requirements.
- Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) or volunteer management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud, VAN).
