About the Role
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner plays a pivotal role in our FQHC, Article 28 Health Services Division and Article 31 clinic. This position works within an interdisciplinary team providing health care services within a community-based health center, responsible for assessment, psychiatric treatment, and consultation for primary health care clients. The role requires the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and experience with vulnerable individuals facing serious and chronic mental health and addiction issues.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations/assessments.
- Conduct comprehensive mental status exams and risk assessments.
- Inform the Clinical Director of significant activities or conditions impacting client or program operations.
- Monitor and follow up on all referrals.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medication and treatment as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention as directed or needed.
- Discuss and formulate Treatment Plans with clients.
- Collaborate with primary psychotherapists on treatment planning and course.
- Provide psychiatric follow-up and assessments for clients receiving Medication Assisted Treatment.
- Write progress notes within 24 hours of session completion.
- Maintain record keeping.
- Develop and implement clinical supervision for the program.
- Participate in the development and implementation of the quality improvement process.
- Attend trainings and meetings scheduled by supervisors.
- May be required to work overtime for crisis intervention.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of clinical, psychopharmacology, and direct service provision experience with minority communities, at-risk communities, and families affected by HIV/AIDS, mental illness, and substance abuse.
- Demonstrated didactic proficiency in group facilitation.
- Comfortable working knowledge of psychopathology and differential diagnosis.
- Above adequate knowledge of psychopathology and differential diagnoses using the DSM-5 Manual.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Experience working with the PLWHA population and social service systems in New York City.
