About the Role

Air Canada is seeking a Counsel, Loyalty to join its innovative legal team in Toronto. This role is crucial for supporting General Counsel, Loyalty and contributing to the strategic objectives of Air Canada and Aeroplan by providing expert legal advice on commercial transactions, contractual matters, and program terms.

Responsibilities

  • Support General Counsel, Loyalty on a variety of matters.
  • Work on commercial transactions and initiatives supporting loyalty business and operations.
  • Provide advice on contractual matters, program terms, and other legal issues.
  • Draft, review, and comment on complex commercial agreements and documentation.
  • Negotiate and support clients through all phases of a project, from conception to launch.
  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing the organization's governance framework, policies, and procedures.
  • Support compliance with applicable corporate legislation review and control.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking activities.

Requirements

  • Law Degree.
  • Membership in the Bar of a Canadian Province is essential.
  • Common and civil law training is an asset.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a leading law firm or an established in-house legal department.
  • Strong commercial law background and experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Experience in marketing, payments, or privacy law is an asset.
  • Solid academic credentials and a proven track record.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer and marketing law.
  • A passion for learning and understanding the business.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good business judgment and ability to be strategic, pragmatic, and thorough.
