About the Role
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, assists residents with activities of daily living and personal care to maximize independence, freedom of choice, and quality of life. Understands the Mission, Vision, and Values of Masonicare.
Responsibilities
- Provides assistance with essential activities of daily living and personal care including bathing, dressing, ambulating, toileting, meal assistance, personal hygiene, transferring, and care of ADL devices.
- Provides assistance with instrumental activities of daily living including telephone calls, light housekeeping, laundry, escorting residents, and mail delivery.
- Assists residents with self-administration of medications through cueing only.
- Observes and reports changes in residents' physical or cognitive/emotional status to nurses.
- Conducts room checks and monitors for environmental safety hazards.
- Records incidents, errors, accidents, and resident-related events.
- Assists in dining tasks such as escorting, set-up, clean-up, and serving meals.
- Participates in and supports the resident-centered activity program.
- Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations.
- Acts as a resident advocate, follows confidentiality policies, and plans duties with minimal supervision.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues and uses tactful communication.
- Follows up on reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
- Acts as an ambassador to guests and visitors.
- Maintains required certifications for employment.
- Completes required written documentation concerning resident care and activities.
- Demonstrates appreciation for residents' heritage and values, and understands the aging process.
- Attends and participates in staff, educational, and committee meetings.
- Assists with quality assurance programs.
- Assists with orientation and training of new staff.
- Provides care and services demonstrating person-centered care principles, including dignity, respect, compassion, coordinated care, and personalized treatment.
Requirements
- Current State of Connecticut CNA certificate.
- CPR Certification preferred.
- Valid CT Driver's License.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to interact with all types of individuals.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet individual resident care needs.
- Ability to read resident care plans, document resident condition, and enter data onto appropriate logs/forms or into a computer database.
