About the Role
You will provide disciplinary and technical leadership to Software Engineers, supporting their development and ensuring engineering activities align with company vision and strategic product goals. You will own technical initiatives from concept to production, including planning, architecture, quality assurance, and ongoing development. You will collaborate with Product Owners to prioritize technical topics and ensure transparency around dependencies and risks. You will make informed technical decisions, review solutions, and ensure compliance with engineering standards. You will connect technical opportunities with business requirements and continuously develop engineering processes and standards. You will support platform modernization with a focus on stability, performance, maintainability, and scalability, and ensure reliable day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide disciplinary and technical leadership to Software Engineers.
- Support personal and professional development of team members.
- Ensure engineering activities align with company vision and strategic product goals.
- Own technical initiatives from initial concept through to production.
- Manage technical planning, architecture, quality assurance, and ongoing development.
- Prioritize technical topics in the product backlog with Product Owners.
- Create transparency around dependencies, risks, and necessary investments.
- Make well-informed technical decisions and review proposed solutions.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, best practices, and quality requirements.
- Connect technical opportunities with business requirements by working with Product, Operations, and customer-facing teams.
- Continuously develop engineering processes, knowledge management practices, and standards.
- Support long-term development and modernization of the platform, focusing on stability, performance, maintainability, and scalability.
- Accompany projects and products through to production.
- Ensure reliable day-to-day operations with the teams.
- Drive the use of AI in software development, quality assurance, and process optimization.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in software development and software architecture.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences.
- Substantial experience developing with Java, ideally with in-depth expertise in the Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot, as well as common Java libraries and standards.
- Ability to quickly familiarize with large, complex codebases, identify overarching relationships, and derive architectural decisions.
- Excellent understanding of software architecture, design patterns, clean code, and modern engineering principles.
- Strategic thinking ability to develop and implement long-term plans for system development, modernization, and improvement.
- Enjoyment in analyzing, refactoring, and sustainably improving existing systems while focusing on stability and performance.
- Solid understanding of databases, APIs, and the entire software development lifecycle.
- Experience in both technical and disciplinary leadership.
- Experience in coaching and developing Software Engineers.
- Ability to structure and prioritize technical projects and deliver them successfully with stakeholders.
- Confidence in communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to operate effectively across Engineering, Product, Management, and external partners.
- Enjoyment working in an agile environment and responding constructively to change.
- Active contribution to the continuous improvement of development processes.
- Combination of strong technical expertise with a good understanding of business contexts and entrepreneurial priorities.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Experience with JavaScript frontend frameworks such as Vue.js or React is a plus.
- Proficiency in German is a plus.
