About the Role

This Senior Data Scientist position focuses on payments performance, optimization, and fraud, aiming to enhance the reliability of financial transactions between Possible and its customers. The role involves treating repayment as a user experience, designing payment systems that align with customers' financial lives.

Responsibilities

Own the data science behind payment processing.
Define and build the company's payments-health scorecard.
Develop monitoring systems to detect anomalies in payment channels and experiments.
Optimize payment timing based on customer pay cycles.
Design retry strategies to increase successful payment clearances.
Redefine payments fraud analysis by building recurring reporting on patterns.
Develop a model to score the risk associated with new payment methods or potential non-clearance.
Partner with Engineering, Product, and Risk teams to inform the payment strategy and engineering roadmap.
Act with ownership in defining healthy payment strategies.

Requirements

Depth in data science fundamentals and payments domain knowledge.
Experience with modeling, production monitoring, and experiment design.
In-depth understanding of payment rails (ACH, RTP, card, and interchange) and payment behavior.
Hands-on production ML development experience, including model deployment, monitoring, and retraining.
Proficiency with tooling such as XGBoost and MLflow or their equivalents.
Strong Python and SQL skills.
Comfort working with large datasets in a distributed environment like PySpark on Databricks.
Experimentation and causal inference skills.
Judgment to select appropriate analytical methods.
Feature engineering instincts for transactional data.
High standards for analytical work, including thorough data understanding before drawing conclusions.
Track record of cross-functional collaboration that has shaped another team's roadmap.
Hands-on experience with observability tooling such as Datadog.
Direct fraud modeling experience.
Background in collections, recovery, or lending operations in a regulated space.
