About the Role
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides assessment, consultation, and intervention services to medically complex clients to support communication and swallowing needs. The SLP develops and implements individualized care plans in collaboration with clients, families, and the interdisciplinary team, monitors progress, provides education, makes referrals, and ensures compliance with documentation standards while promoting safe, client-centered care and continuous quality improvement.
Responsibilities
- Provides consultation, evaluation, assessment, intervention, and counselling to clients and families regarding communication.
- Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to inform integrated care plans.
- Utilizes appropriate standardized tests and outcome measures in clinical practice.
- Makes appropriate referrals to other services and agencies.
- Incorporates goal setting in discussions with family/client.
- Adapts approach to the changing needs of clients and families.
- Keeps family/client informed of progress and any changes in the plan.
- Adheres to Safehaven/MCCSS/professional documentation guidelines.
- Demonstrates familiarity with current literature, issues, and trends in practice.
- Participates in regular quality improvement activities to refine clinical practice and ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Shares new knowledge and best practices with colleagues, students, and other professionals.
- Utilizes the teaching/learning process to provide education to clients/families, colleagues, students, and other professionals.
- Supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology.
- Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
- Previous pediatric clinical experience preferred.
- Experience with providing assessment, consultation, and therapy for medically complex and/or inpatient rehab preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team.
- Demonstrates flexibility and cooperation in dealing with change.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team.
