About the Role
Under the leadership of the Chef de Cuisine, the Kitchen Assistant will provide assistance to the Chef and Cooks by clearing and cleaning dishes, helping with food preparation and service, and assisting children and staff as required.
Responsibilities
- Assist with kitchen production and food preparation activities for meals, salads, snacks, catering, and special/restricted dietary requirements.
- Prepare sandwiches, salads, and grab-and-go items for the café.
- Assist with receiving and putting away deliveries and cleaning activities.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned to contribute to the team effort and achieve the objectives of the Food Services Department.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by keeping the work area and kitchen clean, sanitized, and tidy, storing excess food, clearing waste, and following cleanliness and sanitation instructions.
- Assemble food portions for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner as needed.
- Serve patrons of Mona Campbell Square Café and/or Currie Hall by communicating daily fare and dishing out portions according to established guidelines.
- Adhere to all School, HACCP, and municipal food handling policies, standards, and guidelines during food preparation and handling of food and leftovers.
Requirements
- Experience in a Food Services role in a professional/institutional kitchen.
- Valid Food Handlers Certificate is required.
- Knowledge of food services practices and procedures.
- Good understanding of sanitation and cleanliness issues, including knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working with school-aged children.
- Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Police Reference Check in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy.
