About the Role
Chepstow House School is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. The role involves supporting children's learning, assisting teachers in the classroom, supervising breaks and lunchtimes, and contributing to extracurricular activities.
Responsibilities
- Interact and support children positively to foster their enthusiasm for learning.
- Work with the class teacher in preparing work, putting up displays, and assisting within the classroom.
- Supervise breaks and lunchtimes, managing behavior and disputes.
- Hear children read daily or as part of guided reading.
- Update individual reading records and monitor progress alongside the class teacher.
- Conduct lessons if required, according to agreed policy and syllabus.
- Contribute fully to extracurricular activities and the life of the school.
- Ensure children are safe in the classroom, hall, or playground and are never unsupervised.
- Set up the classroom/playground between 8:00 am and 8:30 am, remaining constantly aware of the children.
- Ensure reading folders go home with children daily, including new books, homework, or letters.
- Ensure children leave the school properly dressed and check the cloakroom area is tidy.
- Plan and teach some lessons supervised by the class teacher.
- Attend staff meetings and staff training.
- Help the teacher with support groups.
- Carry out other related duties and responsibilities as reasonably allocated.
- Contribute to and participate in team planning, self-evaluation, in-service training, and professional development.
Requirements
- Have an enhanced DBS and prohibition order clearance.
- Be aware of and follow the safeguarding, Prevent Duty, anti-bullying, and behaviour and discipline policies of the school.
- Promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
- Be committed to making a difference to all children of all abilities and talents, using a variety of teaching styles to aid learning.
- Be a committed, dynamic, and proactive teaching assistant.
- Be a cheerful, friendly, and cooperative team member.
- Be supportive and positive in interactions with team members and pupils.
- Maintain excellent levels of appearance, attendance, and punctuality.
- Involve themselves fully in the life of the school.
- Value, and be willing to promote, the caring ethos of the school.
