About the Role
Serve as a personal representative of the hotel, providing guests with service that reflects the high standards of the Royal York when seating, serving, and greeting guests. You are the first and last person the guest encounters during their dining experience, therefore, your professionalism is essential in accurately portraying the service excellence of the hotel and restaurant.
Responsibilities
- Report to duty punctually to maintain the integrity of co-workers and guests.
- Consistently offer personal and friendly service.
- Have full knowledge of the menu, beverage lists in your outlet, and all other special promotions taking place in the hotel.
- Ensure that the host stand is kept neat and clean at all times.
- Have a complete understanding of daily duties including seating and greeting guests, accurately taking reservations, handling phones, menu changeovers, newspaper pickup, checking mail, and filing log book entries.
- Efficiently track all covers in the dining room per station and have general knowledge of the union agreement.
- Help guests meet their colleagues by properly using the waiting list form.
- Attend all pre-shift, weekly, and monthly meetings to ensure open lines of communication between all employees.
- Actively participate in health and safety procedures to reduce workplace-related accidents.
- Read and understand all hotel policies and procedures and departmental standards as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Carry out any miscellaneous duties pertaining to the total operation of the outlet as requested by your direct supervisor.
- Feel comfortable with voicing opinions, suggestions, and comments on improving the operation of the Restaurant and ways to improve the guests experience.
- Maintain teamwork and good work ethics with all guests (internal and external) by assisting co-workers with any duties, without compromising the guests’ dining experience.
- Complete all duties assigned before leaving for the day.
- Communicate effectively with servers regarding reservations, last-minute changes, larger parties, and special requests.
- Offer guests coat check when necessary and retrieve guest coats when departing.
- Inform guests of departmental promotions.
Requirements
- Previous work experience in a restaurant/food and beverage setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player attitude.
- Ability to multitask when dealing with a high volume of guest requests.
- Smart Serve is required.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
