About the Role
The Associate Counsel will support Brightcore’s growing energy efficiency business and legal team, focusing on drafting, negotiating, and managing project and commercial agreements for geothermal, energy efficiency, and solar verticals. This role is crucial for collaborating with internal business teams and accelerating the transition to a clean energy future.
Responsibilities
- Review, draft, negotiate, and manage construction, project development, commercial, and strategic agreements (including EPC, O&M, subcontract, vendor, and NDA agreements).
- Manage the contract lifecycle from negotiation through execution and ongoing compliance.
- Support the company's tax credit and incentive programs, working with finance and outside advisors.
- Build collaborative partnerships with internal teams to analyze, communicate, and mitigate legal risks.
- Provide legal advice and support sustainable business growth.
- Stay abreast of regulatory developments in the renewable energy sector to ensure compliance.
- Contribute across the full range of the legal department’s initiatives and workflows, including financing, M&A, corporate governance, insurance, real estate, IP, employment, dispute resolution, litigation, and compliance/policy initiatives.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited US law school.
- Active and good-standing license to practice law in New York State (or ability to waive in).
- 4-8 years of post-law school transactional experience, ideally both in a law firm and in-house.
- Strong track record of drafting, negotiating, and reviewing commercial contracts.
- Construction and/or energy experience highly preferred.
- Exceptional communication, organization, prioritization, and collaboration skills.
- Courteous, responsible, self-driven, and flexible team player.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check including prior employment verifications, criminal history check, and drug screen.
