About the Role

The Guardian is seeking a deputy training editor, curriculum to design and manage a comprehensive editorial learning and development curriculum. This role involves building a culture of continuous learning and ensuring colleagues meet high editorial standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the research, design, commissioning, and documentation of a successful programme of training for supporting editorial transformation, working alongside training team and editorial colleagues, and external partners.
  • Curate a successful mid-career editorial development programme to build leadership capacity.
  • Own the central curriculum of training, ensuring that slides, training materials, notes, recordings etc can be revised, reused and are updated as necessary.
  • Work with L&D colleagues to ensure that professional training materials are tailored and relevant to journalists to ensure training is useful and engaging.
  • Deliver training workshops in areas of editorial specialism, as required.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning where colleagues regularly take part in editorial training and complete mandatory professional training as necessary.

Requirements

  • Excellent journalistic track-record in your own area of expertise and a curiosity about the skills colleagues might need now and in the future.
  • A clear commitment to personal growth and development.
  • The ability to structure large projects such as a significant training curriculum involving long-term deadlines and bringing together different workstreams.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills and the ability to distil complex concepts and ideas into manageable explanations.
  • Curiosity about the future of journalism, and the aptitudes and knowledge journalists will need to build.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the highest editorial standards.
  • Experience in editorial training with the Guardian or other organisations.
  • Experience of collaborating strongly with journalists.
  • Demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role.
