About the Role
User Rights is dedicated to protecting fundamental rights on social media. We support users in enforcing their rights when content is wrongly blocked or prohibited content is not removed. As Germany's first independent dispute resolution body for social media platforms, we actively shape the legal framework of the digital space. We have already decided over 10,000 dispute cases against platforms like Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Pinterest, across the EU and in multiple languages. We are currently around 40 people, will exceed 50 by year-end, and are expanding into other EU countries. Our case processing utilizes a proprietary platform with features like decision trees, AI-assisted violation checks, and data analysis capabilities. We partially develop this platform with an external legal tech provider and have also built in-house capabilities. You will support our team in maintaining and developing this platform, ensuring its functionality, resolving issues, and driving continuous improvement. This involves developing innovative technical solutions for case processing, enabling seamless data exchange with platforms, analyzing case decision data, and providing input to our legal tech provider for new feature development. You will not be deciding cases and do not require a legal degree. What you need is process understanding, technical expertise, and the ability to translate a rule set into a clean technical structure. Legal input will be provided by the case decision team.
Responsibilities
- Operate our case processing platform, serving as the primary contact for technical issues throughout the entire case decision process, including complaint intake, data import, completeness checks, platform response review, and decision generation.
- Enhance our case decision platform by identifying friction points in the case decision process and translating them into concrete improvements, such as new or adjusted workflows, technical solutions, and output formats, with a focus on in-house implementation.
- Manage interfaces to ensure smooth data exchange with social media platforms via our APIs, maintain existing connections, and integrate additional platforms into our case processing system. Also, ensure efficient processing of related submitter cases.
- Analyze data on our case decision practices to identify common case constellations, decision volumes, and bottlenecks in the process. Use this data to develop solutions for a more efficient case decision process.
- Build our decision database and integrate necessary data sources to identify similar cases for more consistent decisions. Ensure data quality, identify duplicates and inconsistencies, and review case-related billing.
- Evaluate partially automated decision drafts, assessing the effectiveness of AI-assisted decisions on terms of service and legal violations, and ensuring high-quality standards.
- Collaborate with the legal tech provider by providing input on needed features, defining clear acceptance criteria, testing new features for efficiency improvements, and ensuring smooth post-launch operation.
- Support scaling by creating the technical framework for expanding our services to more platforms and languages, and ensuring continuous compliance with legal requirements.
Requirements
- Experience with No-Code/Low-Code platforms, workflow tools, or comparable systems, including building workflows, data models, interfaces, and output formats.
- Proficiency in SQL, JSON, and XML, APIs, and a basic understanding of system architectures. Common Lisp is a plus but not required.
- Ability to translate complex rule sets into processes, data structures, and query logic.
- Experience in independently evaluating operational data (using Python, R, or similar) and clearly explaining the results.
- Reliable working method with a focus on the stability and quality of ongoing systems.
- Ability to create specifications for external development teams that can be implemented without further questions and perform structured testing.
- Systematically evaluate model outputs using reference data, criteria, and comparable results. Experience with prompt and evaluation work is a plus.
- Precise reading of complex texts. A law degree is advantageous, as is experience with compliance, policy, or trust and safety regulations, technical standardization, or similar.
- Interest in the DSA and content moderation.
- Very good German and English language skills, at least C1 level.
- Applications from Legal-Tech, GovTech, Product-Ops, or Data roles are explicitly welcome.
