About the Role

Join the Regulatory Assurance team at a pivotal moment for the NMC. The team sits at the centre of one of the organisation's most strategically important priorities: strengthening the NMC’s performance against external regulatory standards and maintaining stakeholder confidence in our regulatory functions. This is a highly visible role offering a unique view of the entire organisation.

Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate regulatory assurance activity, ensuring reporting, submissions and evidence are accurate, timely and aligned to organisational priorities.
Support the organisation's transition to new regulatory standards, helping colleagues understand requirements and embed them into everyday practice.
Gather, analyse and quality assure complex information from across the organisation, transforming it into clear and compelling reports, briefings and submissions.
Coordinate organisational responses to external recommendations and findings, working with stakeholders to develop actions, monitor progress and demonstrate improvement.
Build strong relationships across the NMC, influencing, supporting and constructively challenging colleagues to provide meaningful evidence and assurance.
Act as a trusted adviser on assurance requirements, regulatory standards and performance expectations across multiple business areas.
Produce high-quality reports, performance information and executive briefings for senior leaders and governance forums.
Monitor risks, actions, dependencies and deadlines, ensuring key assurance activities remain on track and issues are escalated appropriately.
Support engagement with the PSA and other external stakeholders and oversight bodies, helping to maintain positive, productive and professional relationships.
Identify opportunities to improve assurance processes, strengthen organisational learning and enhance the NMC's overall regulatory performance.

Requirements

Confident working with complex information, building strong relationships and coordinating activity across multiple teams to deliver shared goals.
Experience in regulation, assurance, audit, oversight, performance reporting, public sector accountability, governance or another environment where you've managed complex stakeholder relationships and translated large volumes of information into clear, actionable insight.
Experience within a regulatory environment would be advantageous, but transferable skills from similarly complex and highly scrutinised sectors are also valued.
Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with the ability to build credibility, influence outcomes and work effectively with colleagues at different levels.
Experience leading or coordinating assurance, oversight, audit, performance review or regulatory reporting activity within a complex organisation.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex evidence, identify key issues and draw balanced conclusions.
Outstanding written communication skills, including the ability to distil detailed information into concise reports, briefings and executive summaries.
Strong judgement and political awareness, with the confidence to navigate sensitive issues and competing priorities.
The ability to manage multiple deadlines, workstreams and stakeholder expectations while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Experience gathering, scrutinising and quality assuring information from a variety of sources to support decision-making and assurance activities.
A collaborative approach, with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence positive outcomes across organisational boundaries.
The ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, accessible messages for non-expert audiences.
Resilience, adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement in a fast-paced and high-profile environment.
Curiosity, professionalism and relationship-building skills needed to help the NMC strengthen regulatory performance, improve organisational readiness and deliver meaningful change across the organisation.

The Regulatory Assurance team works within the Office of the Chair and Chief Executive.
The team manages the NMC's relationship with the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) as its key oversight body.
The team coordinates assurance activity, supports senior leaders and helps the organisation demonstrate continuous improvement.
The team provides challenge, insight and coordination to ensure the organisation can evidence the quality, effectiveness and impact of its regulatory functions.
