About the Role
You will join the AI Performance Tooling team, focusing on making model training and inference faster, more efficient, and predictable across cloud and embedded hardware. Your mission is to enable data-driven AI performance decisions by building tools that reason across the AI stack, transforming profiling data into clear insights on performance bottlenecks and potential improvements. You will collaborate with various engineering teams to provide cross-stack analysis and recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, self-service performance tools for models, hardware targets, and development workflows.
- Define standards for measuring and predicting AI performance at Wayve.
- Analyze platform performance against theoretical peaks, identifying efficiency losses at the layer and op level.
- Predict the performance impact (latency, memory, utilization, compute cost) of model or recipe changes before execution.
- Manage monitoring and regression alerting for model builds and training runs.
- Collaborate with training and runtime engineers to establish performance targets and present data-driven justifications.
Requirements
- Deep, hands-on performance engineering experience in complex systems, including profiling, roofline analysis, latency/throughput optimization, and root-cause analysis.
- Proven track record of owning a tool or service from design through adoption.
- Strong Python skills with experience in profiling and instrumenting large production codebases.
- Hands-on experience developing deep learning models using PyTorch.
- Proficiency in data analysis to derive defensible conclusions from measurements.
- Ability to translate ambiguous performance questions into measurable problems and prioritize effectively.
- Quantitative communication skills to influence other teams' priorities.
