About the Role
Nature Portfolio is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join Communications Physics, a multidisciplinary physics open access journal. This role is for individuals passionate about science who want to learn more about scientific research and enjoy reading papers outside their specialty. The editor will champion the journal within the optical physics and photonics community, with a critical eye and deep subject understanding.
Responsibilities
- Handle original research papers and work closely with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
- Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in light of expert advice.
- Contribute to content and strategy for Communications Physics.
- Collaborate with external editorial board members in manuscript handling.
- Commission and edit content such as Reviews, or write editorials.
- Liaise extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature Portfolio and with experts in the international scientific community.
- Attend conferences and visit research institutions.
Requirements
- Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in a discipline covered by the journal.
- A passion for science and a desire to learn more, demonstrating breadth of interest in scientific research.
- Ability to read and assess the novelty, context, and implications of research from different disciplines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Eagerness to meet scientists worldwide, online and in person, to learn about their research and help them understand publication requirements.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced collaborative environment; team spirit is essential.
- Demonstrate an interest in writing news-type, non-specialist features.
- Editorial experience if applying for the senior editor role.
- A good handle of social media platforms is desirable.
