About the Role

University Settlement partners with over 40,000 New Yorkers annually to foster healthy, stable, and remarkable lives through effective social services. Founded in 1886, we are the first Settlement House in the United States, dedicated to meeting community needs and promoting equality.

Responsibilities

Plan and complete assignments under teacher guidance to support daily classroom activities.
Conduct home visits at least twice annually for each family.
Provide primary care for children in the classroom.
Maintain an organized, safe, and sanitary classroom environment.
Assist with daily classroom setup and cleanup.
Complete and document daily, weekly, and monthly classroom maintenance.
Assist in curriculum development and implementation.
Develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with families and children.
Collaborate with a team to assess family needs, child development, and create classroom goals.
Maintain proper documentation of classroom sessions.
Provide written observations of children's classroom experiences.
Assist in recruiting families for the program.
Attend and participate in program-wide activities, including staff and parent meetings, events, trainings, and professional development.
Maintain required up-to-date trainings.
Fulfill other duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

High School Diploma or HSE required.
Teacher Assistant Certification or CDA preferred.
Experience working with children.
Bilingual English / Spanish or Chinese preferred.
