About the Role

Perform routine building and equipment maintenance tasks in repair, installation, maintenance, and construction for electrical, electronics, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and electromechanical systems in all AUS facilities.

Responsibilities

Inspect buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance.
Perform minor repairs to buildings and equipment.
Assist trade crews in the completion of assigned work orders, including materials ready, perform preventative maintenance inspections, repairs, and new equipment installation activities.
Assist with performing system diagnostics, calibrations, troubleshooting and repairs.
Operate various hand and power tools to include drills, grinders, sanders, power saws, sewer machines, pro-press, shop vacuums, water jetters, etc.
Perform semi-skilled carpentry work in the construction/repair of walls, ceilings, flooring, etc.
Repair and replace electric plugs, switches, ballast, lamps, fixtures, and cords.
Repair and install door hardware/closures, kick plates, handles, locks, and crash bars.
Perform simple plumbing installations and repairs such as install or repair faucets, unclog drains, replace valves, commodes, urinals soap and towel dispensers.
Perform basic service on pumps, air handlers, cooling towers; repack bearing, change oil and filters, lubricate motors, gear boxes and pumps.
Assist in repairing system equipment and components using aerial man lifts.
Perform operations and maintenance tasks including confined space entry and work in hazardous environments.
Maintain records of repairs, calibrations and tests and record the information in the Asset Management System (AMS).
Read profiles/blueprints.
Perform maintenance and inspections on fire extinguishers.
May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, and guidance to others.

Requirements

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
Knowledge of proper safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in equipment and facility maintenance.
Knowledge of proper methods and procedures used in cleaning work area and equipment.
Knowledge of equipment, methods, and materials used in moderate levels of maintenance, construction, i.e. equipment maintenance, building walls, hanging doors and windows.
Knowledge of tools and materials used in equipment and facility maintenance.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of facility maintenance, equipment maintenance, custodial or construction work.
Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
State of Texas Class "C" Driver’s License.
Must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and will be required to drive a City vehicle.
Must drive on the AOA.
Requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date.
External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite.
Applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City’s Driver Record Evaluation Standards.
This position is categorized as essential personnel.
Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled.
