About the Role
The Performance Engineer II - O&M is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational activities of active projects.
Responsibilities
- Ensures all employees follow safe practices while working.
- Collaborates with internal teams to collect and consolidate data for reports, acceptance tests, and analytical tools.
- Onboards active projects into SOLV Energy’s internal Performance Team’s platforms.
- Tracks critical issues within the construction and/or operational fleet and shares findings with internal teams for fleet optimization.
- Troubleshoots performance data/equipment to determine and track commissioning challenges and correlates with work order data for accurate reporting.
- Leads Performance Engineers I & II in day-to-day coordination and management of operational activities relating to projects.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of site design, equipment, and current project issues.
- Calculates and analyzes energy losses and system performance from equipment outages/underperformance and communicates impacts.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of analytical tools, performance calculations, and best practices.
- Identifies and assists with troubleshooting potential issues using analytical tools.
- Updates client reports including Commissioning Plans, Test Reports, Operation reports, Vitals, forecasting, and Yearly Guarantees using internal tools.
- Supports work prioritization for field teams based on criticality and occurrences of failures.
- Identifies operational issues and initiates problem resolution with relevant parties.
- Assists and supports data analytics and software tool development with Performance Engineers and Managers.
- Reviews performance and operations reports and analyses generated by Performance Engineers I & II to ensure accuracy and identify issues.
- Manages plant performance optimization initiatives and collaborates with relevant teams and clients.
- Tracks and understands contractual guarantees and conducts periodic meetings to assess project risk and improvements.
- Maintains clear and accurate documents/procedures for internal reference and training.
- Facilitates strong working relationships with fellow Performance Engineers while prioritizing project ownership and success.
- Facilitates project reviews and ad-hoc client requests to address project performance.
- Reviews turnover documentation to monitor root causes for equipment underperformance and failure modes.
- Runs and evaluates PV system energy models using PVsyst or other modeling software.
- Verifies project drawings including site plans, system layout, one lines, cable management, and equipment installation details.
- Creates project-specific troubleshooting/reporting templates and maintains or improves workflow task templates.
- Executes tasks in the Performance Engineering Workflow Process while maintaining accurate status notes.
- Performs and tracks simulations in PVsyst such as terrain impacts, horizon losses, shading, snow, soiling, and spectral losses.
- Grows into a subject matter expert role in PV power plants.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, science, or a related technical discipline.
- 4+ Years’ experience in PV Performance Engineering or data analytics.
- Experience in modeling using software like PVSyst, PlantPredict, SAM, and so on.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Office tools.
- Experience with programming languages like Python, VBA, MATLAB, Java, and others preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of time.
- Broad understanding of the Renewable Energy industry with emphasis on Service and Construction preferred.
- Fosters a spirit of collaboration between teams.
- Experience working for a diverse multi-disciplined company.
- Strong communication skills to clearly articulate vision into an executable plan and communicate details and thoughts to internal/external clients.
- Effective problem-solving ability and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to identify underlying or hidden problems; looks beyond the obvious to the essence of issues and / or tasks.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for problem solving.
- Able to problem solve and engineer the solution.
- Able to explain to both internal and external clients.
- Able to mentor and oversee Performance Engineers I/II.
