About the Role
This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced and commercially astute lawyer to join a collegiate legal team. You will exercise sound legal judgment advising on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues for the RBA, including payments regulation, financial system resilience, financial markets, bank note issuance, transactional banking, payment systems infrastructure, and financial stability. You will work closely with senior leaders on complex legal issues, requiring excellent analytical and drafting skills, clear thinking, and exceptional communication.
Responsibilities
- Advise across a wide range of legal and regulatory issues for the RBA.
- Provide advice on payments regulation, financial system resilience, financial markets, bank note issuance, transactional banking, payment systems infrastructure, and financial stability.
- Work closely with senior leaders to advise on complex legal issues.
- Exercise sound legal judgment.
- Provide clear, practical, and commercially focused legal advice.
- Build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Manage competing priorities and contribute effectively within a collaborative legal team.
Requirements
- Qualified legal practitioner with a current NSW practising certificate (or eligibility to hold one).
- Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience gained in private practice and/or an in-house legal role.
- Experience operating at a senior level, equivalent to a senior associate or senior legal counsel.
- Experience in banking and finance, financial services regulation, payment services, litigation/disputes, or regulatory enforcement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify legal issues, assess risks, and exercise sound legal judgment.
- Excellent legal drafting capabilities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
