About the Role
The Vice President, Civil Engineer will provide technical leadership and guidance for multi-sector providers, clients, and partners, joining a project team on a major transit rail systems program in San Francisco. The role offers professional and technical growth within WSP's California Regional Transportation team and Northern California Civil Engineering Technical Center of Excellence.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data for project development, design, and construction.
- Apply high-level civil engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases.
- Perform professional civil engineering work and conduct complex investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions.
- Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans.
- Manage the design and construction of infrastructure projects, including rehabilitation and reconstruction.
- Support the development and implementation of advanced technologies, modeling techniques, and design requirements.
- Lead larger-scale civil engineering projects, preparing and overseeing project budgets, and monitoring external events.
- Perform engineering review of permit applications, engineering design plans and specifications, and construction inspections.
- Meet with various public or private entities to discuss engineering/construction challenges.
- Ensure technical reports and presentations explain research, findings, and recommendations.
- Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
- Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
- Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines on improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Work a minimum of four out of five days at the San Francisco client project office.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 12+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design.
- Engineer license required (CA PE preferred).
- Advanced proficiency with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Advanced proficiency with infrastructure design.
- Familiarity with procurement and subcontracting in the engineering and construction industry.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Advanced proficiency with making technical computations and calculations.
- Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to team or project members.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
- Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans.
- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources.
- Advanced proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Ability to support project management functions, including scope, schedule, cost and risk.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Claim management experience on large infrastructure programs.
