About the Role
As Corporate Controller, you'll serve as the CFO's right hand in architecting a world-class accounting function from the ground up. This role involves leading an ERP migration, deploying AI-driven automation, and owning the technical accounting for complex, multi-stream business models.
Responsibilities
- Full-cycle accounting ownership: General Ledger (GL), Payroll, Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order-to-Cash (O2C), and Record-to-Report (R2R)
- Ensure financial data integrity by partnering with Data Science
- Manage high-volume payroll for a nationally dispersed workforce
- Own month-end & year-end close processes and drive down close cycle times
- Author technical accounting memos and policy for multiple evolving revenue streams (ASC 606)
- Build accounting workflows for fintech solutions, including liquidity management and transaction reconciliation
- Manage equity plan administration and ASC 718 accounting
- Oversee multi-jurisdiction tax compliance, including federal, state, local, payroll, and sales tax
- Own the external audit relationship end-to-end, including leading the first company financial audit
- Prepare accurate financial statements for board reporting, debt covenant compliance, and fundraising due diligence
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of a scalable ERP upgrade
- Identify and deploy AI agents for reconciliation, invoice processing, and anomaly detection
- Strengthen billing and collections processes to optimize DSO
- Manage and mentor the internal accounting team and oversee the offshore BPO team
Requirements
- Active CPA license
- Minimum 4-6 years in audit at a Big 4 firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- At least 3 years as a Controller or Assistant Controller at a venture-backed technology company
- Deep technical accounting expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition
- Proven track record of ERP implementation (e.g., migrating from QuickBooks to NetSuite, Sage Intacct)
- Experience managing multi-state payroll tax compliance and nexus analysis for a company with a distributed workforce
