About the Role

The Director of Social Services (DSS) leads the social service unit, developing and executing service and care plans for residents to foster stabilization, independence, and well-being. The role ensures program compliance, accurate reporting, and builds a strong network with external providers to support residents.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure residents receive quality and appropriate services.
  • Develop and maintain a resource network of external providers for various support needs.
  • Ensure program team leverages network partnerships in service planning.
  • Ensure Social Worker and Case Management teams develop service and care plans aligned with biopsychosocial assessments.
  • Ensure assessments and plans provide culturally sensitive analysis and identify appropriate services.
  • Ensure recreation workshops are engaging and promote education, employment, self-care, and skill development.
  • Identify and codify best practices and coach the program team.
  • Review discharge plans to ensure continued enrollment in public benefits and community linkages.
  • Ensure program deliverables are met.
  • Develop enhancement strategies for underperforming areas.
  • Ensure CHI program KPIs align with program metrics.
  • Ensure proper follow-up to incidents with clients and reporting.
  • Ensure program team adheres to CHI code of conduct and regulations.
  • Directly supervise Case Management Supervisor, Social Work Supervisor, and Recreation team.
  • Troubleshoot difficult resident cases and intervene in special needs cases.
  • Conduct 1 to 1 meetings with team members and update performance goals in Paycom.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Social Work or related field required.
  • LMSW or LCSW preferred.
  • Eight years of experience plus three years of supervisory and managerial experience in social work, case management, counseling, or direct advocacy.
  • Experience with immigrants and immigration issues prioritized.
  • A bachelor’s degree in social services and ten years of experience in social services with 5+ in a supervisor setting can be used in lieu of the education requirement.
  • Professional and impeccable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English required.
  • Multi-lingual and Spanish proficiency prioritized.
  • Professional and expert competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet.
  • Experience with CARES, HOME, CAPS, and AWARDS prioritized.
  • Ability to formulate financial budgets and coach budget management skills.
  • Ability to make unit visits (walk distances, climb stairs, etc.).
  • Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls.
  • Extensive experience conducting and reviewing biopsychosocial and needs assessment surveys.
  • Extensive experience in service and care plan design and execution.
  • Extensive experience in trauma and recovery counseling.
  • Extensive experience working with homeless individuals and people living with health and/or mental health issues and substance use.
  • Ability to engage residents.
  • Extensive experience in building and sustaining partnerships and collaborations with external service providers and community-based organizations.
  • Extensive experience in compliance management and contract management.
