About the Role
Benchling is seeking a leader to own its business application portfolio and the integrations between all its platforms. This role involves managing the full lifecycle of these platforms, from architecture and selection to configuration, integration, vendor management, and process design. The Enterprise Applications team sets the target-state portfolio and integration standards for the company, aiming to build a strong business technology function that scales output faster than headcount through automation and AI.
Responsibilities
- Own the portfolio and the architecture, setting target-state SaaS portfolio, integration standards, and data-flow patterns.
- Govern platform selection, rationalization, and lifecycle decisions, backing calls with cost and risk data.
- Lead high-visibility programs across quote-to-cash, pricing and packaging, and consumption billing.
- Systematically remove manual parts of delivery work, including configuration, change management, testing, release, access review, and ticket triage, to multiply team output through automation.
- Build practical AI into team operations and platforms in partnership with the AI and Data Engineering (AIDE) team.
- Expand self-service across the company by building documentation, guardrails, request patterns, and in-product help.
- Design and operate IT general controls across financial data platforms, including access provisioning, segregation of duties, change management, and evidence capture.
- Grow the team and the bench by managing the core team, optimizing the full-time and contractor mix, developing existing staff, and hiring against capability gaps.
- Partner directly with Finance, RevOps, Sales, CX, People, and Legal leaders on the roadmap and process changes.
- Prioritize openly and explain reasoning for decisions.
Requirements
- 10+ years in enterprise or business applications.
- 5+ years leading teams in a fast-paced startup environment, including managing managers and owning a budget.
- Experience owning a multi-platform SaaS portfolio at scale, spanning CRM, ERP, and HRIS, plus the integration layer.
- Deep Salesforce experience, including quote-to-cash and CPQ/RevCloud with complex pricing and packaging.
- Hands-on familiarity with an integration platform (e.g., Workato, MuleSoft, Boomi, Tray) and a point of view on running an integration practice.
- Track record of measurable automation outcomes with specific metrics.
- Practical experience applying AI to enterprise application work.
- Experience building internal self-service that reduced request volume and driving business adoption.
- Experience scaling systems controls through a company's move to public-company financial reporting, including SOX IT general controls.
- Experience taking over mid-flight programs and stabilizing them.
- Strong vendor management skills, including contract negotiation, renewal strategy, and portfolio rationalization with documented savings.
- Clear written communication with non-technical audiences.
- Curiosity about life science (prior industry knowledge not required).
